3-Day Serengeti Safari from Zanzibar — A Fly-In Adventure into the Endless Plains

Trade the beach for the greatest wildlife stage on earth. This three-day fly-in safari lifts off from Zanzibar in the morning and carries you north over the coast and highlands to the Serengeti — the vast, golden ecosystem whose name means “endless plains” and which holds all of the Big Five and the legendary Great Migration. You land at a Central Serengeti airstrip and your guide and open 4×4 are waiting to begin the game driving straight away.

Over two nights in the heart of the park you settle into the rhythm of true safari: unhurried days tracking lion prides, cheetah on the kopjes, elephant, giraffe, and the great herds of wildebeest and zebra that give the Serengeti its pulse. With early-morning and golden-hour drives and picnic lunches out among the wildlife, this is a full, immersive taste of Tanzania’s most iconic wilderness — before a final morning drive and the flight back to the island on day three.

Overview

The 3-Day Serengeti Safari from Zanzibar brings the world’s most famous safari destination within reach of your island holiday, with no long overland journey. A morning flight carries you from Zanzibar to Seronera Airstrip in Central Serengeti — the wildlife-rich core of the park — landing around late morning where your guide and 4×4 are ready. From the moment you touch down you’re on safari, driving out across plains that stretch to the horizon in every direction.

The two full days in the park are what make this trip. Central Serengeti holds one of Africa’s densest concentrations of big cats, so days are spent tracking lion prides in the grass, cheetah surveying the plains from termite mounds and kopjes, and leopard resting in the acacias, alongside elephant, giraffe, buffalo, hippo, and vast herds of wildebeest and zebra. Depending on the season, the Great Migration may be moving through — calving on the southern plains early in the year, or pushing north toward the rivers in the dry months — a spectacle Rama can help you time.

Everything is arranged end to end: roundtrip flights, hotel transfers on the Zanzibar side, all park fees, a professional safari guide, two nights of full-board accommodation, and every game drive. The Serengeti is one of the few places on earth to hold all of the Big Five, and its birdlife and scenery are second to none. Whether you’re a first-time safari-goer, a family, or a serious photographer, this trip delivers the definitive Tanzanian safari and flies you home to the coast on the third day.

Best Time to Visit the Serengeti

The Serengeti is a genuine year-round destination — Central Serengeti, where this fly-in safari is based, holds superb resident lion, leopard, and cheetah in every season. Game viewing is at its finest in the dry months from June to October, when the plains are open, wildlife gathers at water, and the great wildebeest herds push north. January and February are also excellent, a short, drier spell that coincides with the dramatic calving season on the southern plains. November and December are green and scenic after the short rains, while the long rains of March to May are the quietest, lush months, when some camps wind down and light-aircraft schedules are most likely to shift. The migration moves through the ecosystem across the year, so if witnessing the herds is your priority, plan your dates with Rama.

Central Serengeti lodges and the light-aircraft seats are in high demand in peak season (June–October and the January–February calving), so booking well ahead is the best way to secure your dates and preferred camp.

A Stress-Free & Unforgettable Zanzibar Experience أكيد، هذه بصياغة مختلفة تمامًا بحيث ما تبين نفس تعليق صديقتج، لكنها توصل نفس الفكرة: Title A Stress-Free & Unforgettable Zanzibar Experience Review We booked all our Zanzibar tours with Rama Zanzibar Beach Tours & Safaris, and they made our 4-day trip smooth and enjoyable from start to finish. The team was always responsive on WhatsApp, confirmed our plans every day, and happily accommodated any changes we wanted to make. They also recommended activities that suited our interests, which made planning s o much easier. We experienced Salam Cave, the Spice Farm, snorkeling, horse riding, Nakupenda Sandbank, Stone Town, and a private Sunset Cruise. Most of our tours were private, with our own comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, and even our boat was exclusively for our group. As a group of Arab girls, we really appreciated the privacy and the sense of security throughout the trip. Everyone we met was friendly, respectful, and professional. We never felt rushed—they were always smiling and saying “Hakuna Matata!”, which perfectly matched the relaxed atmosphere of Zanzibar. The service was excellent, the prices were fair, and the overall organization was outstanding. We wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again and highly recommend them to anyone looking fo r a safe, reliable, and well-organized tour company in Zanzibar.

Frequently Asked Questions

It's a three-day fly-in safari with two overnights in the heart of the Serengeti. You fly from Zanzibar to a Central Serengeti airstrip, spend two full days on game drives across the plains, and fly home on day three. Round-trip flights, two nights' accommodation, all meals, park fees, a 4x4 and a professional guide are included.
By a scenic domestic flight from Zanzibar to Seronera Airstrip in Central Serengeti, departing in the morning and landing around late morning — roughly three hours in the air, with lovely views of the coast giving way to the golden plains. Your guide and 4x4 meet you at the airstrip and the safari begins right away.
Possibly — it depends on the season. The migration is a year-round movement that circles the ecosystem: calving on the southern plains around January–February, and the famous river crossings in the north around July–October. Central Serengeti sees the herds pass through at transition times and offers outstanding resident wildlife — lions, leopards and cheetahs — all year regardless. Tell Rama your dates and he'll advise where the herds are likely to be.
The Serengeti is one of the few places that holds all of the Big Five — lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard and rhino — though black rhino are rare and seldom seen. You can expect abundant lion, cheetah, giraffe, zebra, and wildebeest, with hippos, hyena and a huge variety of plains game and birds. As with all wild animals, sightings are never guaranteed.
A lot. Day one features an afternoon game drive on arrival, day two is a full day of game driving with a picnic lunch in the bush, and day three includes a final morning drive before your flight. Two nights in the park mean you catch the golden early-morning and late-afternoon hours when the Serengeti is at its most active.
You spend two nights at a tented camp or lodge in or near Central Serengeti, on a full-board basis — all breakfasts, lunches (picnic lunches on game-drive days), and dinners are included. Let Rama know of any dietary needs at booking and they'll be arranged in advance.
The rate covers round-trip flights between Zanzibar and the Serengeti, two nights' accommodation, all meals, every game drive in a 4x4, all park and service fees, a professional driver-guide, and transfers between your Zanzibar hotel and the airport. Personal spending, drinks, tips and travel insurance are not included.
This trip focuses entirely on the Serengeti's plains, giving you more time with the big cats and the open landscape. The 3-Day Serengeti & Ngorongoro version trades some Serengeti time for a descent into the Ngorongoro Crater — a natural amphitheatre with a very high chance of the Big Five in one day. Ask Rama which suits your priorities.
No. Zanzibar and the mainland are both part of Tanzania, so if you're already on the island you do not need a separate visa for the Serengeti. International travellers should just make sure their existing Tanzania visa is valid for the dates of the trip.
The Serengeti leg is flown on light safari aircraft with small cabins and low-level flying that gives superb views. Baggage is strictly limited — typically around 15 kg of soft-sided luggage per person, no hard cases — so pack light for the two nights and confirm exact allowances at booking.
Yes — the two nights and relaxed pace make it a great family safari for children roughly aged six and up, who tend to love the flight, the camps and the big cats. Some camps have minimum-age policies, so contact Rama for family room arrangements and any requirements before booking.
Keep it light and soft-sided for the aircraft:
  • Light, breathable clothing in neutral tones (khaki, beige, olive)
  • A warm layer for chilly early-morning drives and evenings
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat
  • Camera with a zoom lens, plus binoculars
  • Toiletries for two nights, personal medications and a valid photo ID
Guest safety always comes first. If severe weather affects the domestic flights, Rama will let you know as early as possible and work to adjust or rebook your safari. Confirm the current cancellation and rebooking terms at the time of booking, and allow a buffer before any international departure from Zanzibar.
The Serengeti is a year-round destination. June to October (dry season) gives the best all-round game viewing, and January–February is excellent for the southern calving season. November–December is green and scenic, while the long rains of March–May are quietest and most likely to affect flights. For migration timing specifically, plan your dates with Rama.
