4-Day Serengeti & Ngorongoro Safari from Zanzibar — Two Full Days on the Plains, One Great Crater
Take the time to do the Serengeti justice, then finish inside the Ngorongoro Crater. This four-day fly-in safari flies you from Zanzibar to the heart of the Serengeti for two unhurried days among its lions, cheetahs, and great migrating herds, before crossing the highlands to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater — a walled volcanic wonder and one of the richest wildlife arenas on the planet. Two UNESCO World Heritage sites, a genuine chance at all of the Big Five, and no long overland slog.
The extra day is what sets this trip apart from a quick fly-in. With two nights in the Serengeti you can range widely across the plains, follow the light through the golden hours, and give the migration a real chance of turning up. Then, on the final morning, you drop 600 metres onto the crater floor for a last, unforgettable game drive among lion, elephant, buffalo, flamingo, and the endangered black rhino — before flying back to the island that afternoon.

Overview
The 4-Day Serengeti & Ngorongoro Safari from Zanzibar is the trip for travellers who want proper time in the Serengeti without committing to a long expedition. A morning flight lifts you from the island to Seronera Airstrip in Central Serengeti, landing around midday where your guide and 4×4 are waiting. From that first afternoon you’re out on the plains, and with two full days ahead there’s no need to rush a single sighting.
Those two Serengeti days are the core of the safari. Central Serengeti carries one of the highest densities of big cats in Africa, so your time is spent among lion prides, cheetahs on the termite mounds, and leopards in the riverine trees, alongside elephant, giraffe, and the wildebeest and zebra that stream across the grasslands. Depending on the month, the Great Migration may be moving through — calving in the south early in the year, or pushing toward the northern rivers in the dry season — and the extra day gives you a far better chance of finding it.
On day three you trade the plains for the highlands, driving to a lodge on the Ngorongoro rim, then descend on the final morning into the crater itself — a self-contained basin famous for its density of wildlife and its resident black rhino, completing a realistic Big Five. Everything is handled end to end: flights from Zanzibar to the Serengeti and back from Arusha, island transfers, all park and crater fees, a professional guide, three nights of full-board accommodation, and every game drive, before you fly home to the coast.
Guiding travelers across Zanzibar with a passion for sharing the island’s beauty, culture, and hidden gems. Rama and his local team are committed to delivering authentic experiences, friendly service, and unforgettable adventures across Zanzibar.

Itinerary
Day 1 — Fly In & First Serengeti Game Drive
6:30 AM — Hotel Pickup in Zanzibar Your Rama Zanzibar driver collects you from your hotel or guesthouse anywhere on the island and transfers you to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ) in Stone Town, ready for the morning safari flight.
7:45 AM — Scenic Flight to the Serengeti Board your flight north — the coastline giving way to highlands and then the golden plains — landing at Seronera Airstrip in Central Serengeti around midday (there may be a brief stop in Arusha en route).
Midday — Landing & Afternoon Game Drive Your guide and open 4×4 meet you at the airstrip and the safari begins immediately, with a picnic lunch in the bush and an afternoon drive across the plains for lion, cheetah, elephant, and giraffe.
6:00 PM — Dinner & Overnight in the Serengeti Arrive at your tented camp as the light fades, settle in for dinner under the stars, and fall asleep to the sounds of the wild. Overnight in the Serengeti.
Day 2 — Full Day in the Serengeti
6:30 AM — Sunrise Game Drive Set out at first light, the coolest and most active hours, when lions are often still on the move and the plains are yours before the day warms.
12:30 PM — Picnic Lunch in the Bush Break for lunch amid the scenery, then continue exploring, ranging into different corners of Central Serengeti through the afternoon.
Full-Day Game Drive The whole day is devoted to the Serengeti — kopjes, river lines, and open grassland — and, in the right season, to seeking out the Great Migration. It’s the day the extra night makes possible.
6:30 PM — Second Night in the Serengeti Return to camp for dinner and your second night on the plains, with the day’s sightings to talk over around the fire.
Day 3 — Serengeti to the Ngorongoro Highlands
6:30 AM — Morning Game Drive Enjoy a final morning among the Serengeti’s wildlife, making the most of the early light before you move on.
Late Morning — Drive to Ngorongoro After breakfast you travel south and east toward the Ngorongoro Conservation Area — a scenic journey with wildlife along the way and a picnic lunch en route.
5:00 PM — Arrival at the Crater Rim & Overnight Reach your lodge on the Ngorongoro highlands in time for the first sweeping views over the crater. The rim is cool and dramatic — a memorable setting for dinner and your third night. Overnight near the crater.
Day 4 — Ngorongoro Crater & Return Flight
6:30 AM — Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater After an early breakfast you drop 600 metres onto the crater floor for a morning game drive. This wildlife-packed basin gives a real chance of the Big Five — lion, elephant, buffalo, and the endangered black rhino — plus flamingos on the soda lake and dense plains game. Enjoy a picnic lunch amid the action.
Midday — Ascend the Rim & Drive to Arusha Climb back up the crater wall and transfer to Arusha, watching for wildlife as the highlands give way to farmland and town.
Afternoon — Return Flight to Zanzibar Board your flight from Arusha back to the island, taking in a final aerial view of Tanzania as you head home, landing in Zanzibar in the evening.
Evening — Arrival in Zanzibar & Hotel Transfer Your driver is waiting at ZNZ to transfer you back to your hotel — your four-day, two-park adventure complete.

Best Time to Visit Serengeti & Ngorongoro
With two full days on the plains plus the crater, this safari works in any season — and the extra Serengeti time is a real advantage whatever the month. The prime window is the dry season from June to October, when grass is short, wildlife concentrates around water, and the northern herds are on the move. The brief dry spell of January and February is equally rewarding and overlaps with the southern calving. The green months of November and December are lush and uncrowded, while the long rains from March to May are the quietest and cheapest, though the crater rim turns cool and misty and flights are more prone to delay. Because the migration shifts around the ecosystem through the year, share your travel dates with Rama for the best chance of meeting the herds.

The team was always responsive on WhatsApp, confirmed our plans every day, and happily accommodated any changes we wanted to make. They also recommended activities that suited our interests, which made planning s o much easier. We experienced Salam Cave, the Spice Farm, snorkeling, horse riding, Nakupenda Sandbank, Stone Town, and a private Sunset Cruise. Most of our tours were private, with our own comfortable air-conditioned vehicle, and even our boat was exclusively for our group. As a group of Arab girls, we really appreciated the privacy and the sense of security throughout the trip. Everyone we met was friendly, respectful, and professional. We never felt rushed—they were always smiling and saying “Hakuna Matata!”, which perfectly matched the relaxed atmosphere of Zanzibar. The service was excellent, the prices were fair, and the overall organization was outstanding. We wouldn’t hesitate to book with them again and highly recommend them to anyone looking fo r a safe, reliable, and well-organized tour company in Zanzibar.Posted on Tripadvisor![]()
