Guided by a local host who grew up on the island, you’ll be welcomed into a village home, served traditional Zanzibari coffee on the baraza (the stone bench where neighbours gather), and shown daily life exactly as it unfolds: fishing, farming, cooking, craft, and community.
Along the way you’ll visit a local Qur’an school and meet the children, watch seaweed farmers tend their sea gardens at low tide, see carpenters shape traditional dhow boats by hand, and stroll through a tree nursery that keeps the coastline green. The highlight for many guests is the daily fish market auction, where boats come in with the morning catch and — with your guide’s help — you can even bid on the fish you’d like grilled for lunch.

How long does the tour last?
It’s a relaxed half-day experience, usually around 4–5 hours including hotel transfers. Timing can vary slightly depending on your hotel’s location and the village you choose.

Will I actually meet local people, and is that respectful?
