The Blue Lagoon Starfish & Cave Swimming Tour brings together two very different kinds of water in one easy morning or afternoon. You’ll begin at the Blue Lagoon on Zanzibar’s southeast coast near Michamvi — a sheltered, shallow spot where the corals are healthy, colourful, and close enough to the surface that even first-time snorkellers can enjoy them. It’s known across the island for having one of the densest starfish populations anywhere on the coast.
A traditional wooden boat carries you out over the coral gardens, where you can drift above reef fish of every colour — angelfish, snappers, pufferfish, the occasional octopus or moray eel — before wading in among the big orange starfish resting on the sand. Hotel Pickup & Drive to the Coast
Your guide collects you from your hotel in an air-conditioned vehicle and heads toward the southeast coast. The drive is relaxed and scenic, passing coral-rag farmland and village life on the way to the Blue Lagoon launch point.
Meet Your Captain & Board the Boat
At the shore you meet your local boat captain and get a quick safety and snorkelling briefing. You’ll be fitted with a mask, snorkel, and fins before setting off in a traditional wooden boat toward the reef.
Snorkel the Blue Lagoon Coral Gardens
